Can you find the sauce of inspiration?
11 September 2008
Cooking sauces, which sit in a market currently growing by 3.9% per annum and valued at £88m1, are often the piece de resistance of a dish. Which is why Heinz is offering chefs the chance to rustle up their own Best of British ‘sauce of inspiration' at the prestigious Hospitality Show in correlation with the launch of its new Ready to Use cooking sauces. As for the winner, all they need to do is be ready to jet off across the British Isles for a trip of a lifetime...
Chefs have the chance to parade their talent at a top industry show and lap up a luxury break on our own beautiful island in the Heinz Best of British Challenge.
For the chance to win, contenders must draw up an innovative recipe using British produce and one of Heinz Foodservice's new Ready to Use Sauces, developed following demand from caterers for sauces that are quick and easy to prepare.
Chefs can pick from Roasted Tomato and Herb, Hearty Ale and Onion, Zesty Lemon and Parsley, Creamy Mushroom and Classic Red Wine, each available in 2.2kg jars.
Submitted recipes will then be scrutinised by the British Culinary Federation and salon director Peter Griffiths, and eight short listed chefs will be invited to recreate two covers of their dish in 30 minutes in the Salon Culinaire Live Theatre during the Hospitality show at the NEC, Birmingham, between 19-21 January 2009.
The winner will receive £800 of Classic Leisure Cheque vouchers to spend with Classic British Hotels, specialising in refreshingly individual 3, 4 and 5 star hotels in top UK destinations, while two runners up will receive £300 of vouchers each.
Emily Frank, brand manager for Heinz Foodservice, said: "With 61% of consumers favouring traditional British cuisine and 48% wanting to see more British dishes on the menu2, it's the perfect theme and challenge for chefs to get their teeth into.
"Not only are we celebrating British produce, we are giving chefs the chance to experience the versatility of the new Heinz Ready to Use range, which paves the way for changing menus regularly and adding value to the eating out experience by ensuring consumer demand for variety is answered."
